The Icelandic Mountain Guide in Skaftafell was in jolly spirits despite the grim weather. He was making jokes about dropping the rope and leaving me stranded.
We were accompanied by a young Czech couple. The Czech man went first and came back up bleeding from his face. Sharp pieces of ice fling onto his face as he was hitting the axe too close to his body.
He was smiling and in good spirits as we learned an important lesson. His partner was too scared to go after so i got to go twice.
In one of those pictures I appear to smile. However, let me assure you that this smile is masking a freezing and suffering soul.
Ice climbing is not something I would recommend to do for relaxation. I only did it once and unless my life is depending on it, I would kindly decline.
Nonetheless, it was an exhilarating and adrenaline fulled adventure i do not regret at all.
Here too the journey was much more of a thrill than reaching the destination.
