Masapan

Masapan is a sweet desert made from almonds. It is traditionally prepared and give as a gift for a woman who just gave birth.

It resembles marzipan. The secret is in the special “Punto” state of the sugar mix – the perfect crystallisation point of the sweet sauce which glues the almond particles together into a solid structure.

Masapan is said to have features that improve the production and quality of milk in women, and increase fertility in men.

This is most likely false.

The woman making the masapan in this video is my mother. She is not subject to institutionalised gender discrimination. However, often in her life she faced inequality related to her status as a single parent.

This is not cool.
